Scope and Contents: Photocopy in three-ring binder. This file consists of a photocopy of John Clancy's 123-page thesis on business unionism, from 2001. This document was photocopied from the original spiral-bound item in the Sinclair New Jersey collection at Special Collections and University Archives. This file includes informal ledgers and bank account statements for Local 156 from 1941 to 1944, with gaps throughout. Also included is a canceled check from the union dated June 10, 1952. Additional handwritten records are included in Box 3, Folder 28.

Scope and Contents:

Letters to and from union members regarding dues, from the 1940s, are included. A Dec. 16, 1948, postcard from the New Jersey Employment Compensation Commission, includes a return form to request state publications. Two pieces of union stationery (an envelope and a blank form) are also included.

Scope and Contents:

Documents from 1943 and 1944 related to an Application for Wage Rate Adjustment from Local 156 are included. The local was unsuccessful in its attempt to raise wages. Correspondence from the international union details the denial, with National Minimum Wage Scales from 1940 and 1941 as supporting material. A 1948 letter from the international union details policies on disputes regarding local wages and jurisdictions.

Scope and Contents:

A log of dues received from four members of Local 156 covers the period of September 1942 to January 1945. Gummed stamps dated 1947, and 1949 to 1951, are included. Members affixed these stamps to booklets as proof of dues payment.

Scope and Contents:

A general Project Agreement between Local 156 and the Building Contractors Association of New Brunswick, New Jersey, is dated April 1, 1946. Another Project Agreement, between the union and Morse Diesel International of New York City, is dated May 1, 1990, for work at St. Peter's Medical Center. A form contract, undated but possibly from the 1990s, was written by LIUNA for local unions' use in designing Maintenance Agreements.
